…that GDR Passports (East Germany) issued in the last days of the country were still valid till 1995?
Even the German Democratic Republic of Germany was obsolete since 3 Oct 1990! That sounds strange and I believe there was no other case like that when it comes to passports. But the reason was simple. These “extension” was based on German law as it was impossible to issue for millions of new German citizens new documents in such a dynamic time. So if you are lucky you can find a GDR passport with visas or stamps from 1995. If so – keep it as this is something rare!
Example of a GDR passport where it`s bearer taped the news article in the passport

British Palestine passports were also used after the establishment of the State of Israel, at least for a short time.
Do you have more details, Gil? Thanks for sharing.
When I was working in Kosovo around 2004-05, many people continued to use “Yugoslavia” passports for identification and travel, even though the UN was issuing identity documents at the time, and “Yugoslavia” had ceased to exist. People in Kosovo believed that the old Yugoslav documents were still more readily accepted by other countries than the UN-issued docs.
Very good remark. Thank you for your comment.
