As I found out today the British Passport Office published a list of passport fees around the world. The mentioned fees there are significant lower than earlier reported by rushpassport.com and I belive the British Passport Office is a much more reliable source. The original PDF-file can be downloaded here. The new data are as follows. However please take a note also on the readers comments which are the most accurate data.

* Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania are not yet fully-fledged members of the Schengen area; border controls between them and the Schengen area are maintained until the EU Council decides that the conditions for abolishing internal border controls have been met.
Notes:
a) Only those countries for which we have reliable information are included in the table. ‘X’ indicates that the information is unavailable.
b) Information collected from official sources in July 2010 and believed correct at the time. There may be more age or validity variations available, but the intention is to compare the standard variants only.
c) UK passport operations (both in the UK and overseas) are self-financing. Most countries subsidise through taxation.
d) ePassports, also known as Biometric Passports, include a chip that stores your personal details (these are visible on biodata page of the passport). e) Passports containing fingerprints are compulsory for the Schengen Member States. The UK passport does not contain fingerprints.
f) Fees are given in the original currency as exchange rates vary more often than the passport fees.

Cambodian Passport 135$ for 32 pages valid for 3 years and able to extend two times (2 years extension).
One week passport cost 250$.
Thank you for the update!
Hi, thank you for your interesting article. I am an italian citizen and I would like to update you regarding italian passport. Although as you said the issuing cost is 42.50 euro, in Italy there is a really ridiculous system concerning the “validity of passport”. If you wanna make use of your passport, every year you have to pay a tax of 40,29 euro. Therefore, when you ask the authority for passport issuing, the total money you pay is already 82,79 euro. Then, every year, you will have to attach a stamp proving you paid the tax (type: “bollo passaporto” on google images to see how it looks like), outbound/inbound will be allowed even without the stamp, but you will be fined by authorities. Therefore this indirect cost brings up the cost of passport to 42,5 euro + 40,29×10 years. 445,40 euro, that is at today’s change 582.50 US dollars.
Wow, that’s really interesting. Thank you for share with us. I guess that will make a Italian passport the most expensive one in the world.
As June 2012 regular biometric Turkish passport prices:
6 months: TRL 143.00 (USD 78.28)
1 year: TRL 180.10 (USD 98.59)
2 years: TRL 254.40 (USD 139.27)
3 years: TRL 334.90 (USD 183.34)
4 – 10 years: TRL 446.35 (USD 244.36)
Addition to this Turkish citizens pay TRL 15.00 (USD 8.21) each time they go abroad.
Other biometric Turkish passports (issued for state officers, etc. and valid up to 10 years) price is TRL 62.50 (USD 34.21)
Thank you for updating us un the Turkish passport fees.
The Australian passport costs $233AUD which is over $240 USD for a Standard passport valid for 10 years. This makes it number 2 below Turkey. From the research that I have done Turkey have released also a cheaper passport now valid for 5 years.
Thank you Michael, indeed quite a price for a passport.
The standard Malaysian passport costs MYR 300 (around USD 100) and has 48 pages (5 years validity). The fees mentioned in the report are for the old 64-pages version which is not longer available. They had a cheaper 32-pages version as well.
The fees for Singapore are wrong too. It costs SGD 70 (USD 55) for applications made online and SGD 80 (USD 63) for personal applications at the counter. It’s 5 years valid and contains 64 pages. Remaining validity in the old passport will be added to the validity term.
Hi Gil, thx for sharing. Yes the mentioned costs are not always correct. Same for the Thai passport. As Thailand is my 2nd home I know the cost for a normal passport is just 1000 THB (33$) and not as mentioned 62$. The document is normaly delivered within just one week. I was visiting the passport office once with a Thai friend and was impressed about their modern and speedy procedure.
Hi Tom, the argentinean passport cost u$d 30,delivery by mail in two weeks, but if you wish it in 48Hs it coast a steep u$d 200. Now the validity is ten years.
Hi Max, thanks for another update. By the way can you confirm the 140$ for a Brazilian passport? My last German passport was issued in Thailand (extended version with 48 pages) and cost me unbelivable 260$. But I didn`t had a choice the old passport was not expired but didn`t had any blank pages left. Regards. Tom
For persons aged 16 or above (valid for 10 years)
* 32 pages – HK$370 (or US$48)
* 48 pages – HK$460 (or US$59)
For children aged under 16 (valid for 5 years)
* 32 pages – HK$185 (or US$24)
* 48 pages – HK$230 (or US$29.5)
This is the free of a Hong Kong Biometric Passport
Another addition, great. Thx Ivan.
Russia: E-passport with 10 years validity – 2500 Roubles (about 80 US dollars), older version passport (without RFID chip) with 5 years validity – 1000 Roubles (about 33 US dollars)
Thank you Albert. Didn`t realized that Russian Federation was missing. Best regards Tom.
