The Holocaust also known as the Shoah, was the mass murder or genocide of approximately six million Jews during World War II, a programme of systematic state-sponsored murder by Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, throughout German-occupied territory.Of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe before the Holocaust, approximately two-thirds were killed. Over one million Jewish children were killed in the Holocaust, as were approximately two million Jewish women and three million Jewish men.A network of over 40,000 facilities in Germany and German-occupied territory were used to concentrate, hold, and kill Jews and other victims. THIS is one of the very few Jewish survivors which could escape the death camps!

German Passport issued in Dec 1938 in Breslau for ISRAEL Erich Schwenk
Great Britain Leather Passport Wallet With Two Passports & The Bill For These Passports And Visas
This is a fantastic item for every UK collector. The passport wallet contains two passports 1857 & 1867 for Lieut.Col. Robert Dalzell ( 6th Earl of Carnworth, Scottish peerage). But what I saw here the very first time was the invoice of the passport agent which made the wallet and the visas for Earl Carnworth. That’s unique.Fantastic!

Passports as government property Most countries declare by law that passports are government property, and may be withdrawn or revoked at any time, usually on specified grounds. A withdrawal or a revocation is generally subject to judicial review. The definition of “Government property” is stated in most of the passports and/or in the country specific passport law and came up (by my best knowledge) within the last 30-40 years. Really old passports (100 years old and more) do not have such a statement at all – not on the document nor in the passport laws at that time.
The purpose of this site is to establish a platform for collectors to share and exchange information, knowledge and collectibles and to raise awareness of passport collecting as a leisure activity.

All passports presented on this website are obsolete and for research, educational & collection purposes only !

Passports as government property

Most countries declare by law that passports are government property, and may be withdrawn or revoked at any time, usually on specified grounds.

Therefore the statement e.g. from eBay or eGreedy as I call them is not only incorrect but also in consequent. Why? Firstly they state in their policy government ID’s remain property of the issuing country and can’t be sold but then secondly they state that US passports expired 20 years ago (from issue date) are ALLOWED to sell.

Is passport collecting legal? YES, don’t worry it is – as long the passports are obsolete!

I was in contact with several government agencies and even they are often unable to give a clear statement. Basically it is safe to say that passport collecting is “tolerated” as long you have a good reason for your collection, e.g. for historical research.

Normally you will get your old and however obsolete marked passport back when you pick up your new one. This indicates that passport offices do not really have an interest on their “property” by collecting “old paper”.

If you have additional / other information I would be very glad if you share them with me (including references) to ensure most possible legal security for our community!

RARE NANSEN PASSPORT AVAILABLE! Every passport collector knows this is something very special and many collectors like to have such a document in their own collection. The challenge is to find one! Nansen passports were internationally recognized identity cards first issued by the League of Nations to stateless refugees. Designed in 1921by Fridtjof Nansen, in 1942 they were honored by governments in 52 countries and were the first refugee travel documents. Approximately 450,000 Nansen passports were issued, helping hundreds of thousands of stateless people to immigrate to a country that would have them. The Nansen passport was developed as a result of a series of citizenship laws in European countries, including but not limited to the United Kingdom, Germany and France, that excluded millions of ethnic minorities, which were erstwhile residents in their countries, from attaining citizenship. Hundreds of thousands of them stayed permanently abroad. The Nansen International Office for Refugees was awarded the 1938 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to establish the Nansen passports. While Nansen passports are no longer issued, present national authorities, including the United Nations, issue documents for stateless people and refugees. Partially printed document on a single leaf of vellum approx 15×10 ins with ms insertions including a description of the girl with her details (including her height of just over five feet).

NS-Germany Passport 1944 issued in August 1943 to Ingeborg Bünzel who was a female Waffen-SS member and “Camp leader”, probably of a concentration camp. The document has some interesting entries and stamp and was 3 times renewed by the personal staff office of the Reichsführer-SS which is very unusual! The front-and back cover of the passport are loose and almost all stamps inside had been denazified.

Renewal of the passport. Three stamps by the Reichsführer-SS – personal staff of the Reichsführer. The passport was renewed in November 1944 and in February 1945. On the third stamp print is a note which I can not read. The renewals by SS are quite unusual!

Large red stamp from Slovenia as well as three control stamps.

The passport was offered at eGreedy but was canceled by eGreedy censors. When I was contacting the German seller he already sold it to a collector in Argentina for $250. Even in this bad condition the passport is a quite interesting historical document. At least it’s documented and archived here at the website.

JC is collecting modern passports and has a very nice collection. When we met I could see such passports like Vanuatu, San Marino (biometric), Hong Kong (biometric), Bangladesh (diplomatic), Kazakhstan (biometric) just to mention some outstanding documents of his collection. I hope to hear more from one of these sellers as he told he has some very nice old Chinese passports in good condition. My second meeting was with Henk at the Novotel Hotel at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. We have meet several times and we always have a good chat about our common interests.
So far I have met 20+ passport collectors in person. Compared to the total numbers of fellow collectors (200+ on my newsletter), the personal contact is of course very limited but I hope to increase this number in future.

Last week I was also staying in Kuala Lumpur for a few days and it turn’s out that my host of the apartment there was a former Malaysian Diplomat in Moscow for more than 2 years. I kindly asked him if it is possible to see the diplomatic passports of his entire family (5 persons) and he followed my wish, so I can display here also the latest 2 models of a Malaysian Diplomatic passports. Thank you for your kind support, Syah.
