Andorra 700 years anniversary passport

An unissued, blank document! Andorra’s passports are already a rarity, but this special edition—issued exclusively in 1978—takes it to another level! With a population of just 35,460 in 1980, it’s likely that only a few hundred, or perhaps a thousand, of these commemorative passports were ever made. For collectors, this is one of the rarest modern passports in existence—a true once-in-a-lifetime find! Only a handful of nations have ever issued “commemorative” passports, adding to its allure.

Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra or the Principality of the Valleys of Andorra, is a unique, landlocked microstate nestled in the eastern Pyrenees between Spain and France. Its origins trace back to 988, with the current principality established in 1278 under a co-prince structure—a monarchy led by both the Roman Catholic Bishop of Urgell in Spain and the President of France.

Europe’s sixth-smallest country, Andorra spans 468 km² (181 sq mi) and is home to about 85,000 people. Its capital, Andorra la Vella, sits at a lofty 1,023 meters (3,356 ft), making it the highest capital city in Europe. Catalan is the official language, though Spanish, Portuguese, and French are also widely spoken.

Andorra draws roughly 10.2 million visitors each year, despite not being part of the European Union; it has adopted the euro as its official currency. A United Nations member since 1993, Andorra boasts one of the world’s highest life expectancies at 81 years (as of 2013).

I’m curious about the number of these special anniversary passport booklets that were issued, so I’ve reached out to the Andorran government to inquire. I wonder if they’ll respond. Furthermore, I assume only a few hundreds were issued…
