Carrie Fisher Passport 1983 | Rare Celebrity Collectible
Few collectibles combine Hollywood history, personal memorabilia, and passport history as compellingly as the passport issued to Carrie Fisher in 1983. This document, used for a full decade, traces the travels of one of cinema’s most iconic figures: the actress who brought Princess Leia to life in the Star Wars saga.
Who Was Carrie Fisher?
Carrie Frances Fisher (October 21, 1956, December 27, 2016) was an actress, author, and screenwriter. She rose to global fame as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy and remained a prominent cultural figure for four decades. Beyond acting, she was a bestselling author and a frank public voice on mental health.

About the Passport
The passport is a U.S. document issued to Carrie Frances Fisher on May 26, 1983, and bearing her own signature (“Carrie Fisher”). It expired May 25, 1993, giving it a full ten-year run. The booklet contains 23 pages plus more than 20 visa extension pages, and is packed with stamps, visas, and revenue markings from destinations across four continents. A canceled stamp and a new passport application dated July 9, 1993 mark the end of its active life.
The Timing: Right After “Return of the Jedi”
The passport was issued just days after Fisher completed filming on “Return of the Jedi” (released May 1983). It covers one of the most eventful periods of her personal and professional life, including her marriage to singer-songwriter Paul Simon in 1983, and the writing and publication of her novel “Postcards from the Edge” (1987), later adapted into a film starring Meryl Streep (1990). During this same period she appeared in “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1986) and “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989).
Countries Visited: A World Traveler
The visa and stamp record in this passport documents travel across more than 15 countries and territories:
United Kingdom, France, Greece, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Singapore, China, India, Egypt, Australia, Thailand, St. Maarten, and Nepal (trekking permit included).
This is a remarkable travel record for a single passport, and it adds significant provenance and research value to the document.
Why This Passport Matters to Collectors
Celebrity passports are among the rarest categories in passport collecting. Most are destroyed, retained by families, or lost. A signed, fully stamped passport from a figure of Carrie Fisher’s stature, covering a decade of travel at the height of her career, represents an exceptional primary source for both memorabilia collectors and passport historians.
Collector’s Note
The passport was offered to me in 2017. However, the owner decided to place it online for auction. The price was at $6800 before it was taken down.
