Pelé, a soccer icon on a global scale, Death at 82. Pelé, whose native Brazil named him a national treasure, became famous worldwide and promoted the game everywhere. Football Legend PELE Has Died

Pelé passed away on Dec 29, 2022, in So Paulo. He was one of the greatest soccer players of all time, and a pivotal figure in 20th-century sports who attained a degree of global renown few athletes have ever encountered. He was 82.

Joe Fraga, his manager, announced his passing. The growth of colon cancer, according to the Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital in So Paulo, was the cause of multiple organ failure. Football Legend PELE Has Died

Pelé had undergone chemotherapy for cancer in recent years, and he had recently been admitted to the hospital for treatment of several ailments, including a respiratory infection.

A few years ago, several of his passports were auctioned. Here are some of them.

The “Pele Collection” is unprecedented and extraordinary. It covers every stage of his career — both personal and professional. The collection offers a story of sorts from his signing with Santos FC in 1956 at the age of 15 through his post-career humanitarian efforts and being named Santos FC’s Lifetime Global Ambassador for the club in December 2014.

on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Brazil, soccer legend Pelé became a superstar with his performance in the 1958 World Cup. Pelé played professionally in Brazil for two decades, winning three World Cups along the way, before joining the New York Cosmos late in his career. Named FIFA co-Player of the Century in 1999, he is a global ambassador for soccer and other humanitarian causes. His mother named him Edison, after the American inventor. But the birth certificate misses the letter i, so it became Edson.

The collection included fewer than fifteen (15) of his expired Brazilian passports from 1960 to 2007. The starting price of £350 ($510) went quickly up, and some of his passports reached £12160 ($17720)!

But on the hammer price, you had to add a 25% premium which means the final price, including premium, ended up at £15200 ($22150) for his Brazilian passport from 1971 when Pele was 31 years old. The initial price was £750!
