Passport To Freedom by Miriam Talalay about her Grandfather

View and read the great story of a Jewish family escaping the Nazis in Berlin by purchasing land in Haiti. In this way they were granted a Haitian passport! A less known possibility and escape route when it comes to emigration of Jews during the Holocaust.

Paul Talalay is my grandfather. He is 92 and he has spent his career as a physician and researcher. Many people know him because of his broccoli research. He discovered the part of broccoli (sulforaphane) that can help prevent cancer and other diseases. He also recently discovered that it might even help children with autism. But most people don’t know this story. I am writing about this part of his history because I think many people would like to know about his life in Berlin and his escape from the Nazis in World War II using a Haitian passport. I love my grandfather and I am glad we spent time together talking about his life as a young boy. The day he escaped from Berlin, he turned 10, which is the same age as I am now. Miriam Talalay, 2015 Thank you Mary for sharing this awesome story!
