Samuel W. Lewis (1930–2014) was a key figure in American diplomacy, with an impressive career spanning several decades. Born in Houston, Texas, Lewis attended Yale University, where he received his undergraduate degree, and then went on to Johns Hopkins University for graduate studies. He joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1954, quickly taking on various roles that contributed to his expertise in international relations and diplomacy. His early assignments included postings in cities like Naples, Rio de Janeiro, Afghanistan, and Italy, where he gained experience in European and Middle Eastern affairs.
