Bavaria was a Kingdom for 112 years. Proclaimed in 1806, it existed until the November Revolution in 1918.
On January 1, 1806, Bavaria achieved official elevation to the status of a kingdom, signifying a significant moment in its history. In the age of Napoleon and the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, an independent state had emerged from the Electorate of Bavaria. Bavaria soon adopted its own constitution, which provided for elected representation of the people, and introduced modernizing reforms.
Religious freedom was granted to Catholics, Protestants, and Jews. The corporatize order was abolished. The nobility and clergy lost their privileges. The peasants were freed from serfdom.

Bavaria maintained full sovereignty until 1871. It then joined the German Empire but retained partial independence after the Reich’s establishment.
The First World War ended with the defeat of Germany, and at the same time with the collapse of the monarchy. The first German Republic replaced the Kingdom with the Free State of Bavaria.

Within the passport, two handwritten modifications distinguish it further. They transform the title from “Electoral Serene Highness” to the more regal “Royal Majesty.” One of these alterations discreetly resides within the text. The other is subtly concealed beneath the protective embrace of the official seal. Otherwise, the travel document is in excellent condition and measures 27 x 40 cm.
This outstanding passport was sold in Dec 2023 on eBay for 412 Euros, well deserved. Congrats to the seller and buyer.
