During my trip to Singapore I meet up with Gil, a Swiss national living and working in Singapore and a passionate collector with focus on Czechoslovakia, Judaica and Emigrant passports. We already had good email contact earlier and shared often ideas and opinions. We spend a excellent time together by sharing our experience and knowledge. Gil presented me some great examples of his collection of around 400 items. Some of his “treasures” I saw also for the very first time. Such like a GDR (German Democratic Republic) FREMDENPASS (Alien passport) or a passport from the “ALL-PALESTINE-GOVERNMENT”.
Also I could hold in my hands 3 passports of the Third Reich with the infamous “J-stamp”. Gil is collecting quality as all presented passports were in excellent condition. This should be also a recommendation for all (new) collectors – collect QUALITY instead of QUANTITY and FOCUS on a few specific topics only (unless you really have deep pockets).
I enjoyed our time together and there should be more of such collector meetings and who knows maybe it’s possible to arrange a “International Passport Collector’s Meeting” in future.
Let me know what you think about this idea…
