The German Passport System 1925, Johannes Krause

13 April, 2012

When it comes to literature on passports we all know it is quite difficult to find relevant sources. I was lucky to find to old and rare books on the German passport system. This book has not only the full content of the passport law at that time but it does explain the passport system much more in detail, including several further documents which where normaly just for “internal use”. The book has 500 pages and comes in a good condition. Topics are:

  • Passport law 1867
  • Regulations 1916
  • German passports
  • Foreign passports
  • Visas
  • Passport samples
  • Register of passport offices in Germany and abroad
  • Int. passport law

(only a selection…)

Such books helps us collectors to understand much better the documents we have in our collection, they are a important knowledge source. The book displays passport types I never saw before. The register of the German foreign passport offices (Embassies, consulates…) gives you an impression where passports could be issued. I am pretty sure  a German passport issued in Adis Abeba is something special.

The book explains also rules to issue a Nansen passport…

In this article you can get only a first impression on the content of the book. So let me know if you have a specific request on German passports and I will look more into details. By the way you will find some links on laws at my website but the web sources are mostly only an extract of the law but never in full content.
