Unique German Reich Alien Passport 1946

Here comes a unique Alien Passport – Deutsches Reich – Fremden-Pass, November 1946, for an Austrian-born lady whose occupation is mentioned as “Film cutter”. Born in Zistersdorf/Austria, which is near the Czech and Slovak border. Issued in Überlingen/Germany which is near Lake Constance. Unique German Alien Passport

This document is very unusual and not a standard Alien passport at all. As indicated by the text on the document, it was issued as a substitute due to the absence of original forms. This document represents the final iteration of the Nazi Alien passport booklet, featuring 32 pages.

Certainly, the local government in Überlingen expressed reluctance to utilize the antiquated Nazi forms. Nevertheless, one can still come across these passports today, where the Swastika is discreetly concealed through over-labeling. Immediately after the war and persisting until the conclusion of 1946, authorities continued to issue these provisional documents. Such documents are rare in the transition period between the end of the German Reich and the Federal Republic of Germany. Unique German Alien Passport

The gray standard Alien passport, comprising 32 pages, was granted to individuals residing in the Reich. Primarily stateless persons and frequently forced laborers. Remarkably, 99% of these Alien passports were never utilized for travel; instead, they served solely as resident permits. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that there exists a pink temporary version of Alien booklets with 16 pages.

Instances of these booklets displaying foreign travels or being issued abroad are exceedingly uncommon. I have a few with foreign travel in my collection and if you see them, don’t hesitate to grab them!
